Brecon Beacons & Waterfalls Weekend
25th & 26th September 2021
Evolve Bootcamps and Discover Guildford invite you to join us on a fantastic weekend to explore 2 of the most beautiful areas in South Wales.
On Saturday 25th we meet up at Gwaun Hepste car park for 13.00pm ready to start the walk at 13.15pm - Location is before you reach Cwm porth car park when turning off the main A4059 road… once you turn off go along the road and the car park is set back from the road on your left… the nearest postcode is CF44 9JB (but this is not exact for the car park). It is National Trust Parking and cost at last look was £5.
We will venture round the stunning woodland and intricate river ways to find the most beautiful waterfalls. You would get the impression you were not in the UK but trekking through an exotic rain forest.
The walk should not last more than 3.5 hours and upon leaving we venture to our accommodations for the night.
On Sunday it is an early start, we need to be at the Brecon Beacons Car Park at 8:30 before spaces fill up and ready to go for 9:00am at the latest. There are toilets and fast food van is onsite but please make sure you have had a good breakfast and have plenty of food and water for the hike.
The postcode for Pont ar Daf Car Park is CF48 2HY, again it is National Trust so please make sure you have change to pay at the meter.
We venture up towards the first of our Peaks Corn Du from the Storrey Arms, dip down once we summit and then ascend Pen-Y-Fan the Highest point of South Wales. After summiting and admiring the views we then decide on the time to hike over to Cribyn Peak and time permitted Fan-Y-Big before taking the path back down to the car park for a well-earned cupper and bite to eat!
Most will probably want to return home afterwards so we will then bid each other farewell with some lovely memories. Hopefully the trek will be completed within 7 hours absolute max.
The weekend is 2 parts. The main treks on the Sunday is £35 and the Waterfalls trek is £10 so £45 for the whole weekend. This will be fully guided but does not include the price of parking or accomodation.
It is essential to have the following for this walk:
Good quality walking boots/shoes and hiking socks
Waterproof Jacket and Waterproof over trousers
Wicking top/base layer
Comfortable walking trousers/leggings (not jeans or track pants)
Rucksack 25 litre minimum
Waterproof cover for rucksack
Small first aid kit carrying plasters/tape and essential medication.
Food and drink with energy snacks and packed lunch
It is desired to have the following:
Spare wicking top
Dry/Snap bags for personal belongings
Toilet paper and nappy sacks
Hydration reservoir i.e. Camelback/Platypus. Having one of these is a lot easier to stay hydrated
Do remember that even in the height of Summer the weather in the mountains can change in an instant.
Having the essentials will keep you safe, dry and warm. If you don’t need them that great, but take them anyway just in case.
If you are coming on the Waterfall trek also make sure you have your waterproofs
We do advise that if you are doing anything out of your comfort zone to think about taking out insurance. You are on mountainous terrain, so it is always worth covering yourself, but it is a personal preference.
Discover Guildford kindly ask you to arrange your own accommodation for your trip, we recommend staying near to the area for the night so you can get to the venue on time the next day.
There are loads of places around but it's advisable to book up ASAP. Brecon itself is a lovely little town and there is also Talgarth and Aberdare nearby. I'd advise even though it is cheap not to stay in Merthyr Tydfil! Not unless you value your car or own wellbeing!
Check out booking.com or Expedia for places near the postcodes above.
Please make payment via bank transfer to Evolve and put the reference as "Brecon", we will then add you to the Brecon WhatsApp group to help arrange the weekend.
We look forward to having you along....
Pete and Mark.
