International Women's Day

International Women's Day provides an exciting opportunity to celebrate women's achievements, whilst raising awareness and a real sense of commitment to do what we can to help build an inclusive world - a world where diverse backgrounds, perspectives and talent are sought, valued and embraced.

International Women's Day is for everyone; regardless of your race, age, gender or sexual orientation. It's a day to make us stop and think, a day to self-reflect; to commit to taking extra steps to challenge direct and indirect discrimination, question stereotypes and help forge an inclusive world.

A recent survey by Women in Sport, found that 43% of surveyed teenage girls saw themselves as sporty at Primary school, but sadly for a wide range of reasons no longer saw themselves this way, nearly double the amount compared to surveyed boys (24%). I wonder how many women can relate to that; having fond memories of playing sports at school, maybe skipping or playing ball games in the playground and undertaking weekend/after school clubs, but those fun experiences are now very distant memories.

At Evolve, our aim this month specifically is to encourage more women and girls to get involved in physical activity/sport to enable them to access the mental, physical and health benefits gained from exercise, reignite those childhood memories, as well as encouraging them to have higher aspirations for themselves.

For the whole of March we will have an extra focus on celebrating our member’s achievements; those who have broken barriers and inspired others to follow their path. We encourage and support members to set aspirational goals for themselves, helping them to jump over any barriers in their way, and not stopping until they reach what they aimed to achieve – all whilst having fun!

There is no greater sense of accomplishment than achieving something you, and others, never thought was possible. Whether it be to reach a podium place in a Spartan Race, flip over a massive tractor tyre or be fit enough to keep up with their children or grandchildren at the park; we aim to ensure each member has aspirational goals for themselves regardless of their age, gender or race.

International Women's Day is the perfect opportunity to ensure everyone is doing their utmost to create a more inclusive world for our children and our children’s children and there is no better way than to lead and inspire by example.

We hope to inspire more women to #breakthebias by offering 20 people access to FREE unlimited outdoor sessions for the whole of March - encouraging new members to embark on their own journey to be happier and healthier, and to achieve something that perhaps they didn’t think was possible.

We also hope others will be inspired to offer something similar.
