Updated: Sep 22, 2023

Everything you need to breeze through the winter months no matter what the weather throws at you.

So here we are......Winter!!!.....

You've killed your Bootcamps all through the summer and seen amazing changes to your fitness, health and physique.....But its getting dark.....and wet.....and cold.....you're asking yourself if you can cope over the next few months! YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN, but you need be ready!!!

Winter Bootcamps are still be a lot of fun, but you need to be prepared for them - As Sir Ranulph Fiennes once quoted “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing”.

With this in mind, Evolve have put together a Winter survival kit to help you breeze through the winter months with a smile on your face. Here’s our top tips…….

1. FOOTWEAR.

If you’re in the market for a new pair of trainers, we’d strongly suggest getting yourself some trail running trainers. They’re stronger, provide more stability and have far more grip in wet/muddy conditions and there are also waterproof verions which are an absolute life saver.

2. HANDS AND HEAD.

The biggest tip I can give you for colder sessions is to keep your hands and head warm, this is where you lose most body heat. Keep these warm and you’ll feel toastie in no time at all.

  • Waterproof / Neoprene gloves keep your hands warm AND dry! We 100% recommend picking up a pair.

  • Any hat that’s warm and covers your ears will work fine. Neck warmers also help keep you warm.

3. LAYER UP.

The layers you wear for a given activity are matched to the weather, your activity level, and your personal preference. There are essentially three layers to consider:

  • The base layer: wicks moisture and perspiration away from your skin to keep you warm and dry.

  • The mid layer: insulates and keeps you warm.

  • The outer layer: allows moisture to escape while blocking wind, and repelling water.

The Base layer

Is in contact with your skin. A tight fitting and wicking material is best to keep you warm and dry. Polypropylene, silk, polyester, Thermax and Thinsulate are all good choices Avoid cotton because it traps moisture, so it stays wet and draws heat from you.

The Mid layer

Provides insulation. It should be a bit looser than the base layer, but to function properly it needs to maintain contact with the base layer. Mid layers also carry moisture away from the base layer to the outer layer. A common material for mid layers includes down, polyester, fleece, wool and newer synthetic/natural blends.

The Outer layer

Blocks wind and allows moisture to escape. Typical outer layers include shells made of Gore-Tex or a similar material. Extras such as pit zips, ankle zippers (for pants), and a variety of ventilation options are standard. Outer layers should also be tough enough to withstand tears and abrasions. Other less high-tech options may include wind resistant materials or water-resistant fabrics.

Once you have a layering plan, you can adjust your temperature control simply by removing or adding layers as needed.

4. CAR CARE

If you’re not changing into dry clothes after a wet session, then Binbags or a towel will help protect your car seats and seatbelt. There’s nothing worse than getting in your car the next morning and sitting in a damp car seat.

Windscreen Frost Shield - If you haven't got a fancy car that fast-defrosts windows then purchasing a frost shield for your windscreen could be the difference between binning off an early session if scraping ice off your car isn't appealing to you.

5. SPARE CLOTHES.

Jumping into a dry set of clothes to drive home makes the journey more comfortable, you’re welcome to use the containers at Evolve Bootcamps after your session.

If you want to be super fancy, a dryrobe is a gamechanger for pre/post bootcamp sessions.

So there you have it! follow these tips to stay warm, dry, safe and enjoy Evolve Bootcamps all year round.
